Associate professor and Academic Dean Dr. Krishna Raj Bhandari of LA GRANDEE International College presented a paper “Methodological Assessment of International Business Research” in an international conference organized by Prithvi Narayan Campus from May 8-9, 2019. Scholars highlighted the issues in merger & acquisition in banking and financial institutions (BFI) sector, time series analysis of the arrival of tourists in Nepal, and biofuel from microalgae and other business-related issues. In the latter deliberations, the scholars linked the business motives with climate change and environmental protection.
The closing remarks on behalf of the participants were also delivered by Dr. Krishna Raj Bhandari. Dr. Bhandari concluded that the majority of the papers were primarily based on primary data; in answering the research questions related to the above-mentioned themes, scholars have used mainly cross-sectional studies with the potential to develop more sophisticated models on longer time duration and more methodological rigors; the contributions from the Indian scholars highlighted the next frontiers of methodological research where machine learning based prediction models will rule the world where artificial intelligence, data science and statistical models will be merged, and there is a potential collaboration with international institutions in developing courses in data-science.
Today on March 24, 2019, an interaction session with the representatives from University Grants Commission (UGC), Nepal was organized at LA GRANDEE Seminar Hall. The interaction was focused on orientation about the Quality Assurance and Accreditation(QAA) process incorporated by UGC.
Executing regular operation and maintaining quality are different aspects. Quality assurance is a process to deliver the best practices either in terms of operation or in terms of the working principles and policies. So LA GRANDEE is always committed towards quality performance and enhancement for which it is in a preliminary process for the QAA and the session led by Mr. Narayan Bhandari assisted by Ms. Nabina Chaulagain from UGC was found very effective in guiding the Criteria and the accreditation indicators. All the full time college members inclusive of department heads, administrator, faculties, and staff actively participated in the interaction session. Academic Dean, Dr. Krishna Raj Bhandari coordinated the session while Principal, Er. Kiran K.C. delivered vote of thanks to representatives from UGC as well as college members and further on behalf of college, expressed interest to proceed on the QAA process.
On January 27, 2019, Students of BBA 7th Semester conducted a field visit under the course Fundamental of Entrepreneurship, but primarily focusing on providing charity and support to the students of Maya Universe Academy (http://mayauniverseacademy.org/), Vyas-11, Chisapani, Tanahun. The Maya Universe Academy, established in 2011, is a chain of free private schools currently operating in 3 different locations run by youths and dedicated towards social welfare by educating students of rural communities. The program was a continuation to the fund collection program “Tea for Cause” in which students had collected a sum of Rs. 28000. In coordination with faculty Ms. Ganga Ghale, students handed cash Rs.25000 along with stationary, sports and other school materials to the Academy founder Mr. Manjil Rana. Besides the charity, they conducted interactive and motivational sessions for the school students of grade 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Besides their support, students also had interaction with the founders and the volunteers of the school through which they also learnt about the operation and motivation of the Academy towards such social work. This way, participating students also got knowledge about the social entrepreneurship and further committed to provide more support to them in the days to come for which they have already scheduled a fund collection program on February 25, 2019.
Students at LA GRANDEE have always been motivated towards conducting events with innovative approaches and for genuine causes with social responsibilities. As another unique event, students of BBA 7th semester organized an event with the theme “Tea for Cause” on January 9, 2019, in which they hosted an open stall at college premises and served the morning tea and breakfast to all the students, faculties and staff of college. The main objective of the event was to collect fund and provide charity to the students of Maya Universe Academy, located at Vyas-11, Chisapani, Tanahun which was established by youths in 2011. It is a chain of free private schools but with access to affordable and quality education to over 400 students living in rural Nepal. Currently, it has been operating in 3 different locations. So the event was especially organized with the purpose of supporting their mission for social welfare. Faculty, Ms. Ganga Ghale mentored the event in which the organizers had collected a sum of Rs. 28000.00, proposed to be donated to the Maya Universe Academy.
A formal agreement (MoU) for the Internship Program was signed by Er. Kiran K.C., Principal and Madan Kumar Mulmi, Pokhara Branch Manager on behalf of LA GRANDEE International and Janata Bank Pvt. Ltd. respectively on Jan 9, 2019. Principal coordinated the program and shared happiness to have the collaboration with Janata Bank Pvt. Ltd. He further expressed his confidence that this approach in the near future will obviously give directions to set up CSR and other collaboration mechanisms through which students will have opportunity to experience professional skills and initiate Learn and Earn environment. Mr. Mulmi also expressed his happiness to collaborate with LA GRANDEE and assured to have long term relations by participating in the students skill development programs whenever possible. Academic Dean, Dr. Krishna Raj Bhandari, BBA Program Coordinator, Suraj Gaudel and Ms Pragati Dahal, Operatino In-charge from Janata Bank witnessed the signing program.
There is always an ongoing argument between educational institutions and corporate sectors regarding deployment and necessity of the efficient human resources, each operating in different pedestals, whereby, the corporate sector claims to have not received the capable graduates while the other argues for not having proper positions for their competitive resources. As an initiation to address the underlying problems and challenges so as to fulfill the need of each, LA GRANDEE as a pilot project has started the Apprenticeship Program for IT students through which students are being trained to develop skills through hands-on-practice approach. Each training shall be practiced for 2-3 months and after successful completion of the training and proving their competency, students will be working as professionals in the development center within the college itself. It is an approach to practice professional training beyond internship.
A formal agreement (MOU) was signed for the Apprenticeship Program by Er. Kiran K.C., Principal and Pawan Krishna Shrestha, Regional Engineering Manager (Province 4) on behalf of LA GRANDEE International College and Seva Development Pvt. Ltd.(https://www.sevadevelopment.com/) respectively on December 23, 2018. Seva Development is a socially motivated IT company. Currently, 3 students of BCA 7th Semester, Pradip Dhakal, Prabhu Gurung and Arjun Subedi are already enrolled for the Apprenticeship program. Under successful implementation of the concept, it is expected to conduct similar approaches for other programs and include more number of students of the college.
Principal coordinated the program and shared happiness to have the collaboration with Seva Development. The concept of apprenticeship has remained a long time dream that finally has come to its shape, as expressed by the Principal. He further expressed his confidence that this approach in the near future will obviously give directions to set up development cell within college through which students will have opportunity to experience professional skills and initiate Learn and Earn environment.
On December 13, 2018, LA GRANDEE extended its collaboration with one of the leading and the first regional commercial banks from the western region of Nepal i.e. Machhapuchchhre Bank Limited. MOU was signed by the Principal of the college, Er. Kiran K.C. and the Gandaki Province Manager of the bank , Mr. Jaya Prasad Sapkota, with the purpose of developing mutual relationship to provide internship opportunities for the students and further collaborate to conduct training, seminars and incubation programs for innovative project plans. Dr. Krishna Raj Bhandari, Academic Dean of the college and Ms. Neelam Gautam Paudel, Dy. Province Manager (Province 4) witnessed the MOU document while Mr. Narayan from Machhapuchchhre and students from BBA program also observed the MOU signing program. Mr. Sapkota delivered his remarks and best wishes for the academic enhancement of the college and further expressed to have effective collaboration in the days to come. Also the Principal, on his closing remarks, expressed his happiness to collaborate with such renowned organization, being optimistic on creating productive opportunities for all the stakeholders.
Principal Er. Kiran K.C., on behalf of LA GRANDEE and Branch Manager Mr. Pujan Aryal, on behalf of Nepal SBI Bank Limited signed an agreement for students internship alongwith future prospects to extend collaboration for student’s skill development programs. On the same occasion of the 3rd Session of LA GRANDEE BIZ CENTER, a MOU was jointly signed in presence of the students and the Academic dean of the college Dr. Krishna Raj Bhandari on November 21, 2018. LA GRANDEE has earlier collaborations with many other leading organizations and have been creating a culture that ensures better learning environment for students. With such collaborations, it gives opportunities for students as well as the institution to conduct student activities more formally and professionally.
Programs like Quiz contest are also part of learning and can be a good platform for students to update their knowledge. LA GRANDEE has always been trying to conduct activities in innovative ways. With similar perspective, a theme based quiz contest to promote awareness on Comprehensive Sexuality Education was hosted at LA GRANDEE International College on November 19, 2018 for the BPH students. The program was organized by Family Planing Association of Nepal, Kaski branch. Total 6 teams each with 4 team members participated in the competition and the program was successfully conducted in presence of many other students of the college and other distinguished guests. Team with the 1st position and 2nd position were felicitated with awards and certificates.
The program was chaired by Narayani Tripathi, coordinator of the program and also one of the students of LA GRANDEE. Chief guest Ms. Rajani K.C. inaugurated the program while special guests Principal Er. Kiran K.C., Academic Dean Dr. Krishna Raj Bhandari, BPH Coordinator Mr. Keshab Raj Adhikari, BPH faculties, Bikas Poudel (BM of FPAN-Kaski), Amrit (Youth Coordinator), Navaraj Tiwari and other representatives from FPAN were present in the program. Program chariperson, chief guest and special guest delivered speech at the closing of the program.
LA GRANDEE has been collaborating with FPAN for other programs like Breast cancer awareness and screening program as well in previous days.
