Research of University of Western Australia Concluded

10 days’ Collaborative Research on Evaluation of Impact of Open Defecation Free (ODF) Program in Kaski District, Nepal recently concluded with a short presentation on Wednesday, July 19, 2017. The research was conducted by total of 20 students, ten from School of Population and Global Health, University of Western Australia in collaboration with seven students of Public Health from LA GRANDEE International College and three from Pokhara University. The field research activities formally ended on July 19 with a closing ceremony which was divided into two different sessions. In the first, Dr.Julie Saunders along with all the students from University of Western Australia, LA GRANDEE International College and Pokhara University presented their remarks focusing on the impacts of ODF Program in Kaski District. Participating Professors and Faculty raised some questions on issues related to the research project. It was concluded with the discussion that the impact of the ODF program was found effective, though some places still needed more attention and awareness campaign. The research was conducted mainly in four different areas Begnas, Sisuwa, Gagangaunda and Hyamja of Kaski district. After analysis and discussion, the first session came to the end.

The second session then began with chairing of Kiran K.C., principal and Chairman, Devraj Chalise of LA GRANDEE International College along with other distinguished guests. Addressing to the closing ceremony, Mina Shrestha, Regional Monitoring and Supervision Officer, DWSS, Nepal; Gajendra Singh Pun, Team Leader, Kanchan Nepal; and Professor Jane Heyworth, Deputy Head, School of Population and Global Health, University of Western Australia expressed their views. Students’ participation for conducting the research was highly acknowledged by offering them Participation Certificate. College chairperson Devraj Chalise and principal Kiran K.C. bid a formal farewell to the faculty and students of University of Western Australia with Letter of Appreciation and Khada. As a closing remarks, college principal extended sincere thanks and gratitude to them for conducting such a research project in collaboration with LA GRANDEE International College and further expressed appreciation to Mr. Nirmal Adhikari, Program coordinator of Kanchan Nepal who actually coordinated all the activities for the research. BPH coordinator, Manisha Chalise and other faculties of BPH department attended the program. The whole session was hosted by the Academic Coordinator Pradip Kumar Lamsal.
